Reducing the polluting emissions responsible for climate change and the dependence on fossil fuels, in a cost-effective way. This is the goal with which Marchetti PRO is developing Joule Storage, a new multi-MWh thermal energy storage system.
Joule storage can be recharged using both waste heat from industrial processes and electric power, when there is an overproduction of energy from renewable sources and the price of energy falls (holidays, strong winds, peaks of photovoltaic production…).
Then, the very high-temperature gases produced by Joule Storage can replace or integrate other fuels in industrial thermal processes or pre-existing cogeneration systems.
The combined use of waste heat and electric power for the recharging process increases the flexibility of the system. Moreover, the electric power can be used to increase the storage temperature above the temperature of waste heat, facilitating its exploitation.
